Webster County supervisors OK animal control bid

Cosgrove: Gowrie Trail project now complete

The Webster County Supervisors named Total Animal Control Services as the county’s new animal control officer Tuesday.

The supervisors unanimously approved the business’ low bid of an annual fee of $19,200.

“For Total Animal Control, I think I read that it was only one person and I’m a little concerned because this is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year job, so I’m a little concerned that this is a lot for one person,” said Supervisor Niki Conrad. “There was also mention that a monthly bill would be itemized, so I just want to be clear that this is as indicated $19,200 as an annual fee versus us getting an itemized bill beyond that. My second question is that both of the bids that we received refer to Town & Country Vet as the shelter. Has this been established that they’re willing to be the pound for the county?”

According to Supervisor Austin Hayek, Town & Country Vet has been providing interim pound services while the county found a new animal control officer. The previous animal control officer also had their own on-site pound. Bids were only for animal control at this time.

The supervisors also approved the transfer of properties to the City of Gowrie for the Gowrie Trail Project, which according to Webster County Conservation Director Matt Cosgrove has been completed.

“These mark the closeout of the Gowrie Trail Project,” said Cosgrove. “The county had to purchase these lands or had them donated for the trail project and they’re being transferred as the MOU stated. A lot of hands touched these projects, and we appreciate everyone’s hard work on this. We just received the final reimbursement check last week for about $713,000.”

The supervisors approved temporarily closing approximately six miles of county roads southeast of Lehigh from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 1-2 for the Central Iowa Enduro Riders and Iowa Enduro Riders Association.

“This is a race they’ve been doing more than 15 years,” said Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll. “It’s pretty neat to watch. They have a couple locations and have a crowd come down to watch. It’s a pretty cool event.”

TK Elevators was approved as the low bid for elevator maintenance for the five county building elevators. Their bid was $401.55 per month.

Starting at $4.62/week.
