Victims of head-on crash named
Highway 20 wreck claimed two lives
WEBSTER CITY — The Iowa State Patrol released the names of the two drivers who died in the crash on U.S. Highway 20 in Hamilton County Wednesday.
According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, Joseph Kennedy, 69, of Alden, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aaron Scott Gomez, 40, of Harlingen, Texas, was driving a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup. Gomez was taken to the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to the state report, Kennedy was eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 20, when he struck the Gomez vehicle in the inside lane of the highway. Kennedy’s vehicle came to rest in the median, while the Gomez vehicle was on the outside shoulder.
The crash occurred at about noon on Wednesday. Traffic was detoured for several hours from U.S. Highway 20.
The crash remains under investigation.
