Intersection, Public Safety Authority top council agenda
Meeting set for 6 p.m. tonight
The Fort Dodge City Council is expected to address two major issues when it meets tonight: an intersection job and the entity that may build a new Law Enforcement Center.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
The intersection to be addressed is Second Avenue North and North 15th Street. Tonight the council will consider awarding a contract for the complete reconstruction of the intersection. Castor Construction, of Fort Dodge, submitted the apparent low bid of about $3 million.
The city has a $2 million state grant to help pay for the work. The rest of the money will come from the city’s one-cent local option sales tax.
The plan for the intersection calls for a left turn lane, a right turn lane and a lane for traffic going straight ahead on each side of the intersection.
The council will also consider appointments to the new Webster County Public Safety Authority.
That authority was created earlier this month to plan a new Law Enforcement Center, which would be constructed if voters grant their approval in November.
The authority will be governed by a three-member board. One member will be appointed by the City Council, one member will be appointed by the Webster County Board of Supervisors and one member will be appointed jointly by the city and county.
The council will consider appointing Ryan Gruenberg as the city’s representative. He is a former Fort Dodge Police Department captain who is the vice president of operations at Iowa Central Community College.
The council will also consider appointing Vickie Reeck as the city-county representative. She recently retired after serving as the community and economic development manager in the city’s Development Services Department.
