Thomas O. Chelesvig first took office as a member of the Iowa Central Community College Board of Trustees in 1981. He is still a trustee helping to guide the college 45 years later.
His remarkable tenure was recognized recently by Community Colleges for Iowa.
The Webster City man was presented an award during the group’s Summer Trustees Conference held at Marshalltown Community College.
The college issued the following statement honoring Chelesvig:
“Thomas O. Chelesvig’s tenure as a trustee spans one of the most transformative periods in Iowa Central history, from changes in technology and workforce needs to growth in programs, facilities, and student services. Chelesvig has played a pivotal role in the success of Iowa Central Community College through his continuity of leadership and institutional knowledge. His 45 years of impact reflect the vital role community college trustees play in connecting the college with its communities, advocating for student success, and ensuring Iowa Central remains responsive to the ever-changing needs of our region.”
One of the buildings on the college’s Webster City campus is named the Tom Chelesvig Center in his honor.
