FD school board prepares to wrap up academic year
Bond-related measures approved
Several dates in relation to the end of the 2025-26 academic year highlighted discussion at Monday’s meeting of the Fort Dodge Community School District board.
Superintendent Josh Porter shared information on high school graduation and the last day of school for students and staff during his report.
“There is a lot going on, but it is all very exciting,” he said. “Graduation is Saturday, May 23, at Dodger Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m., while the last day of school for students is May 28 and for staff is June 1.
“There is also plenty happening beyond that,” he added.
Porter discussed district track and field which is Thursday at Waukee Northwest and the start of the baseball and softball seasons during the coming week.
“We recently played host to state rugby at Dodger Stadium, too,” he said. “It was a very cool event with a great turnout.”
The action items voted on during the evening dealt in large part with wrapping up the recent sale of the bonds for the high school improvement project, according to Brandon Hansel, the district’s executive director of financial services. The board:
∫ Approved a resolution appointing UMB Bank N.A., of West Des Moines, to serve as paying agent, bond registrar, and transfer agent, and the paying agent, bond registrar and transfer agent agreement.
∫ Approved forms for tax exemption and continuing disclosure certificates.
∫ Approved a resolution amending the resolution authorizing the issuance of not to exceed $42,040,000 in general obligation school bonds, Series 2026, and levying a tax for the payment thereof adopted Feb. 9, 2026. According to Hansel, this resolution amendment gives full details on the bond sale.
Porter discussed a new district technology plan for 2026-27 and in the future.
“We will be handing out MacBook Neos for 10th graders which consists of 735 devices and a cart,” he said. “There will be some changes for the remaining device rollouts, and we are drafting a letter about this soon.”
The board approved the plan unanimously.
The meeting opened with recognition of the annual art purchase and elementary volunteer awards for the district. The art honors, which feature the district purchasing the works for future display, were Feelhaver Elementary fourth grader Mazie Hayes with “Northern Nights”, middle school eighth grader Marley Coulter with “An American Gothic Parody” and sophomore Sawyer Parcel with “Feline Utilities.”
