Big machines are rumbling across a long section of once vacant ground along Third Avenue Northwest as workers begin the process of building the Fort Dodge community’s newest apartments.
The construction site consists of about three acres along the south side of the road between Fifth Street Northwest and 10th Street Northwest. There, Hoppe Development, of Lincoln, Nebraska, plans to create 65 apartments in a series of eight buildings.
Last year, a representative of Hoppe Development told the City Council that the apartments will be a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom units. Rents are projected to range between $750 and $1,750 per month.
In February 2025, the City Council sold the property to the developer for $369,000.
In May 2025, the Iowa Finance Authority awarded $1,195,346 in housing tax credits to the developer.

“Housing is a critical pillar in fostering strong, thriving communities across the state of Iowa,” Debi Durham, the director of the Iowa Finance Authority, said at the time.
Then in September 2025, the project was awarded an additional $874,440 in tax credits from another state program operated by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Crews from Riley-Armstrong Plumbing & Heating, of Fort Dodge, are now installing the water and sewer lines to serve the buildings.
