A jury found a Webster County man guilty of second-degree murder Friday.

Rolman Humberto Recinos Gonzales, 39, was charged with first-degree murder in the 2025 Labor Day weekend death of 45-year-old Justo Cruz Calindo at the apartment the two shared in the 500 block of North 28th Street.

Recinos Gonzales initially told law enforcement officers on scene that he saw a dark vehicle without its lights on pull into the apartment building’s parking lot around 1 a.m. Sept. 2, 2025, and shoot Calindo. According to testimony during the trial, he later changed his story multiple times. A weapon was found in Recinos Gonzales’ closet.

Recinos Gonzales’ trial began Wednesday with prosecutors calling multiple law enforcement witnesses, including the state medical examiner. Recinos Gonzales’ defense called his brother to the stand.

Friday morning, jurors received their instructions and shortly after returned a guilty verdict on the lesser included crime of murder in the second degree.

Recinos Gonzales will be sentenced on May 22 in Webster County District Court.

Starting at $4.94/week.
