City works to retain animal control service

Council to consider interim agreement

Fort Dodge officials are moving quickly to ensure that there is no lapse in animal control services in the city.

The City Council on Monday will consider an interim agreement that will keep Webster County Animal Protection on the job through June, with the goal of having a new contract in place on July 1.

This move became necessary when it became apparent Tuesday that a contract between the company and the Webster County Board of Supervisors, which covered the city as well, would not be renewed.

That contract had expired Jan. 18, but had been extended through April 19. On Tuesday, Webster County supervisors took a proposed contract extension off their meeting agenda and did not discuss it.

Under that contract, Fort Dodge paid the county quarterly, according to City Manager David Fierke. He said now the city will contract directly with Webster County Animal Protection.

The city would pay the company $5,321.50 per month under the contract to be considered by the council.

Starting at $4.94/week.
