Big projects, animal control agreement on council agenda

The Fort Dodge City Council will consider awarding contracts for a couple of big projects when it meets this evening.

The council meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The elected officials will consider awarding a contract for the complete reconstruction of Third Avenue Northwest between Seventh and 10th streets northwest. Rasch Construction, of Fort Dodge, has submitted the apparent low bid of about $2.1 million.

Also on the agenda is a proposed contract for building a parking lot and picnic shelter near the boat ramp at the former Sunkissed Meadows Golf Course. Doyle Construction, of Fort Dodge, has submitted the apparent low bid of about $265,000.

In other matters, the council will consider approving an interim agreement with Webster County Animal Protection to provide animal control services through June. The company will be paid about $5,300 a month. City officials hope to follow that up with a more permanent contract to go in effect July 1.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Purchases of vehicles for the police and recreation departments.

• Purchasing real estate for the reconstruction of the intersection of Second Avenue North and 15th Street.

• Creation of a part-time records and support technician in the Fire Department.

• Purchase of a new sound system for the Mini Majors section of Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.

• The second readings of updated fire and building codes.

Starting at $4.94/week.
