A Fort Dodge firefighter directs a hose stream into the engine compartment of a sport utility vehicle that caught fire moments after a collision Friday afternoon at the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and 29th Street. The crash happened at about 4 p.m. It involved a Ram pickup and the Chevrolet SUV. No one was injured. The crash remains under investigation by Fort Dodge police. While firefighters and police worked at the scene, the east bound lanes of Fifth Avenue South were closed and all eastbound traffic was directed north onto 29th Street. The traffic lights at that busy intersection were not working normally all day Friday and a four-way stop sign had been placed in the intersection earlier in the day.
