Meyer to seek reelection
FD Republican wants fifth term in House
State Rep. Ann Meyer has filed her nominating petitions to run for a fifth term this year.
The Fort Dodge Republican said that during her first four terms she has produced legislative successes and has been responsive to the needs of constituents.
“I think we’re doing good things in the state,” Meyer said.
“I enjoy doing constituent work,” she added. “I try to be very responsive to my constituents and try to help solve their problems when they’re working with state departments.”
Meyer wrote a bill banning the use of electronic devices by drivers unless the devices are in hands-free mode, then worked for years to get it passed and signed into law. She also wrote several bills to improve mental health care and increase the number of health care providers in the state which became law.
She said she is “still getting 2026 priorities across the finish line.”
“Health care is always going to be my focus,” she said. “That’s my background and that will always be my focus in the legislature.”
She represents House District 8, which includes Fort Dodge and eastern Webster County. No other Republicans have entered the race. Kris Williams is seeking the Democratic nomination.
Meyer grew up in Redford, Michigan. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mercy College of Detroit in Michigan. Prior to being elected to the state House of Representatives, she was a clinical nurse instructor at Iowa Central Community College.
She and her husband, Dr. Jim Meyer, have one son.
