FD council to consider second EMS agreement

The Fort Dodge City Council will consider a second agreement with Webster County for receipt of money from the emergency medical essential service tax.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The council approved an initial agreement on Feb. 9.

This second agreement before the council would enable the city to use money from the EMS tax to pay for big ticket items and personnel.

The agreement would cover these items:

• Construction of a new three-bay firehouse on the west side of town.

• Hiring up to nine more firefighter/paramedics.

• Purchasing ambulances and medical equipment.

Fort Dodge is expected to get about $1.2 million annually from the tax.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department provides paramedic level ambulance service to the city and the northern two-thirds of Webster County. And because it is the only paramedic level ambulance service in the county, it assists other units with the most critically injured and ill patients.

Also during tonight’s meeting, the council will consider buying some property to create an additional entry and exit point to Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex. It will also consider buying traffic signal controls plus some equipment for Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.

Starting at $4.94/week.
