Hugghins receives Emerging Leader Award

Volunteer and Ambassador of the Year also honored

A Fort Dodge man whose civic engagement includes everything from promoting downtown businesses to providing emergency medical care received the Emerging Leader Award from the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance Thursday evening.

Luke Hugghins received the award during the alliance’s annual dinner at Fort frenzy.

“This year’s emerging leader award recipient has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to community service, consistently stepping forward where civic leadership, public safety and community building are needed most,” said Astra Ferris, the chief executive officer of the Growth Alliance.

Hugghins has been active in the following:

• Fort Dodge Young Professionals past president

• RAGBRAI committee chair

• KidZone Daycare board member

• Main Street Fort Dodge board member and past president

• Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance board member and past president

• UnityPoint Health board

• Local Workforce Development Board Vice Chair

• Volunteer firefighter, EMT, EMS lieutenant and EMS service director for the Badger Fire Department

• Webster County Emergency Medical Service Advisory Council

• State of Iowa Emergency Medical Service Bureau Advisory Council

Hugghins is the Fort Dodge market leader for McClure Engineering Co. He is the second recipient of the honor, which was introduced last year.

Matt Johnson, dealer and director of happiness for Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota and Fort Dodge Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, received the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Ferris said Johnson has volunteered in these ways:

• Alliance Ambassador

• Community Concierge Navigator

• Board member

• Annual Golf Outing committee member

• Regularly assists with Growth Alliance site visit vehicle and transportation needs

Ferris said he “donated his time, leadership, and his aviation skills to aid in the recruitment of the newly announced gateway to the West, daily Denver flight from Fort Dodge Regional Airport.”

Scott Johnson was named the Ambassador of the Year for his service representing the alliance at groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
