Farnhamville, Stratford sharing agreements approved

The Webster County Supervisors approved sharing agreements with the Reading-Cedar fire and ambulance service in Farnhamville and Stratford Fire Department on Tuesday.

The agreements for Farnhamville and Stratford will allow the departments to draw EMS funding directly from the county instead of from the Dayton Rescue Squad and Southwest Webster Emergency Medical Service, as was initially proposed to the EMS Advisory Council.

Farnhamville is in Calhoun County and Stratford straddles the Webster-Hamilton county line. Both units provide ambulance service to small parts of southern Webster County.

Stratford provides ambulance service to about 30 square miles east of the Des Moines River in southeastern Webster County.

Farnhamville covers about 18 square miles in southwestern Webster County.

According to Supervisor Nathan Montgomery, the amount that Farnhamville and Stratford will receive is still being calculated through the geographic information system (GIS).

During Tuesday’s meeting, Webster County Supervisor Niki Conrad also noted that interviews have begun for an EMS coordinator, a new position that was created following the passing of the EMS as an essential service vote last March.

The supervisors also approved plans and specifications for paving 160th Street east of Nelson Avenue. According to Conrad, this is on the north end of Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex and the south end of the winery and will prepare the road for extra traffic. This roadway also connects to the bike and walking trails.

The supervisors also approved and authorized Chair Austin Hayek to sign a letter of support to the City of Fort Dodge for a grant application for the Northwest River District.

Starting at $4.94/week.
