One arrested in Dayton shooting

DAYTON — One of two men wanted in connection with a late December shooting incident in Dayton has been arrested.

Zachary S. Hammond, 40, of Lehigh, was arrested early Wednesday morning by Webster County sheriff’s deputies.

He is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and going armed with intent, according to court records.

The shooting happened on the evening of Dec. 28 in the 100 block of Fourth Street Southwest. No one was injured, but a building was damaged.

According to the criminal complaints filed against him, Hammond drove a 2003 Kia Sedona van that evening with Jose Perez, 33, of Lehigh, as a passenger. He drove to the 100 block of Fourth Street Southwest, where Perez fired multiple rounds into a house there, the criminal complaints state.

Deputies wrote in the criminal complaints that text messages reveal that Hammond helped Perez get the gun used in the shooting.

Deputies had previously found the van and the gun.

Hammond made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning.

Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston set a Jan. 23 preliminary hearing and issued an order prohibiting Hammond from having any contact with the residents of the house.

She set bond for Hammond at $30,000 cash only.

Deputies are still seeking Perez, who is wanted on charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent and reckless use of a firearm.
