Team members from Nestle Purina Fort Dodge recently presented a $30,000 donation to leaders of the Iowa Central Foundation to supply veterinary consumables and advanced diagnostic equipment for the Iowa Central Community College veterinary technician program.

The donation was delivered through the Purina Foundation, recognizing organizations that work to positively impact Purina’s operating communities.

Iowa Central Community College is focused on addressing rural vet care gaps by training technicians and offering free services to nearby shelters. This program ensures that students receive hands-on training with industry-standard tools so they can provide exams, vaccinations and nutrition support to animals in need.

“We are honored to accept this donation from Purina as it will help us make a difference in the community,” said Dennys Canto, associate dean at Iowa Central Community College. “Purina’s investment in our organization will have a tremendous impact and will contribute to a thriving environment for people and pets. We look forward to using the funds to supply veterinary technician students with the supplies and equipment they need to provide meaningful care.”

The veterinary technician program at Iowa Central is one of the newer and most popular ones on the Fort Dodge campus. There is a waiting list of people seeking admission into the program.

Future plans call for putting the program in a new Center for Ag Science to be built on the campus.

“At Purina, we focus on crafting the best quality food for pets, but we are just as passionate about the communities where we serve,” said Trever Morgan, Purina Fort Dodge factory manager. “We are thrilled to present Iowa Central Foundation with a Purina Foundation grant and continue our partnership in the community.”

The Nestle Purina plant at 2400 Fifth Ave. S. employs more than 300 people.

It marked its 50th anniversary in the community last year.

A $175 million expansion is underway that will enable the plant to make a new wet cat food under the Fancy Fest label. Production of that new food is expected to start next year.

In the last five years, Purina has contributed more than $150 million to organizations focused on making a difference for pets, people and the planet.

Starting at $4.94/week.
