Man jailed after threatening woman, leading officers on a chase
A man has been jailed on a long list of criminal charges after pointing a gun at a woman’s head and later leading police on an early Wednesday morning chase through Fort Dodge streets at speeds that reached 60 mph.
The pursuit ended when he jumped out of his pickup truck, which then rolled into a fence.
Fort Dodge police arrested Norman C. Greenfield, 37, of 3323 10th Ave. N., on these charges:
• Eluding, speed over 25 over limit
• Dominion or control of a firearm by a felon
• Reckless use of a firearm
• Possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, first offense
• Domestic abuse assault, display or use weapon
• First degree harassment
• False imprisonment
• Reckless driving
• Failure to maintain control
• Failure to yield to emergency vehicle
• Stopping, standing or parking where prohibited
The incident began sometime after midnight Wednesday at Greenfield’s home, according to the criminal complaints filed against him. Officers wrote in the complaints that he pointed a Ruger 9 mm handgun at a woman’s head and threatened to kill her.
He left the scene in a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup and led police on a chase that ended at about 4:30 a.m on South 32nd Street.
In the criminal complaints, officers wrote that Greenfield threw the gun and it went off upon striking the ground, firing a bullet that hit a fence and a pool.
Officers also wrote that he got out of the truck while it was still in drive, causing it to roll and hit a fence.
When he was taken into custody, Greenfield had a white crystal-like substance and a loaded needle with him, according to the criminal complaints. The white substance and the contents of the syringe field-tested positive for methamphetamine, officers wrote in the complaints.
Greenfield made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning.
Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston scheduled a Jan. 23 preliminary hearing on most of the charges, while postponing court action for 180 days on the lesser charges of reckless driving, failure to maintain control and stopping, standing and parking where prohibited.
She set his bond at $36,000 cash only.
