The Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to a structure fire Saturday in the 400 block of South 15th Street. A small garage and lean-to, along with a vehicle and side-by-side, were all heavily involved in fire at the time of arrival.

Quick response from the Fort Dodge Fire Department Saturday saved multiple area buildings from being lost to fire.

According to the Fort Dodge Fire Department, they received a call at 10:24 a.m. for a structure fire in the 400 block of South 15th Street. Two of the department’s engines were already out on medical calls, so fire units from multiple locations in town responded.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a small garage and lean-to that were heavily involved, as well as a side-by-side and vehicle.

According to Fort Dodge Fire Chief Matt Price, firefighters were able to control the fire within a few minutes of arrival, preventing the fire from extending into the home on the property.

A second alarm was called, bringing six off-duty officers to staff additional apparatus for subsequent calls. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

According to Price, the fire was an accidental electrical fire. All outdoor items were affected and some siding was melted on the home.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department was on scene for approximately two hours and was assisted at the scene by Fort Dodge Police Department and MidAmerican Energy.
