Porter: Architectural designs for FDSH project in the works

The Fort Dodge Community School District board’s final meeting of 2025 focused on moving forward with items related to the recently approved $42 million high school building bond issue.

“We’re already working on initial design elements for some sections of the overall process,” Superintendent Josh Porter said. “The goal is to have architectural designs by mid to late February for the first set of projects.”

The board approved the intent to use a construction manager at-risk project delivery method, a request for qualifications for said manager, and an intent to issue debt to reimburse the district for certain original expenses under Treasury Regulation 1.150-2.

“The qualifications request will be published for 14 days, during which companies can submit their intentions to be the CMAR (construction manager at risk) for the referendum work,” Porter said. “The intent to issue debt to reimburse the district allows us to use the bond proceeds to pay ourselves (for that work).”

In other action, the board:

• Approved a resolution for the final acceptance and closing project costs with Jensen Builders to wrap up the transportation facilities project.

• Approved the 2026-27 at-risk/dropout plan for a modified supplemental amount of $1,330,521.

• Appointed and approved board member Keenan Schurr to the Webster County Conference Board, which hires the county assessor.

• Approved the purchase of clocks for the boys and girls wrestling programs for $11,607 from Bad Ass Clocks, LLC, of Janesville.

• Approved the fixed asset inventory services with Inventory ID of Olathe, Kansas, in the amount of $22,500.

• Approved the November financial reports. Executive Director of Financial Services Brandon Hansel, noted that the district remains in good standing. He also stated that a new bank account has been established for bond proceeds.

The next meeting of the Fort Dodge Community School District board is 6 p.m. Jan. 5.
