The Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to another early morning electrical fire on Sunday. This is the sixth electrical fire in the past two weeks for the department.

The fire, located at 1108 S. 26th St., was called in at 4:24 a.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the home.

According to Fort Dodge Fire Chief Matt Price, all occupants of the home had safely evacuated. Firefighters located the fire in the attic and quickly extinguished it using a single handline. Crews then completed overhaul and salvage operations.

No injuries were reported and firefighters were on scene for approximately an hour and a half.

According to Price, the cause of the fire appears to be electrical. The home is owned by Joseph Kirchmeier.

“FDFD has put in lots of hours this month. Not only have we fought the fires, but folks forget we cover the EMS calls that occur during and afterwards as well, sometimes leaving the fire scene and responding to a medical emergency,” said Price. “FDFD has shown great resilience this month and our successes come from our hard-working staff. We’re always prepared and ready to adapt to what the community needs.”

The Fort Dodge Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Fort Dodge Police Department and MidAmerican Energy.

Starting at $4.94/week.
