Goldfield man dies in accidental shooting
Investigators say no foul play
GOLDFIELD — A Goldfield man is dead following an accidental shooting last Friday.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, George Filmalter, 26, was inside a residence at 3372 210th St. at approximately 8 pm, Friday and was handling a handgun which he believed was unloaded. Filmalter discharged the gun into his body and died from his injuries.
According to Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, no foul play is suspected and investigators do not believe he wanted to harm himself. They also believe he did not think the weapon was loaded, according to the sheriff.
“This tragic incident should serve as a stark reminder to everyone to treat all firearms as if they are loaded at all times,” said Kruger.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police Department, Renwick Ambulance, Humboldt Community Memorial Hospital ambulance, Humboldt County Medical Examiner, and the Foust Funeral Home from Eagle Grove.
