FD school board OKs alternative diploma path
Fort Dodge Community School students who have dropped out but want to return and finish their academic careers will now be able to, thanks to a measure approved Monday by the Fort Dodge school board.
First presented by Curriculum Director Teri Goetzinger at the Nov. 24 meeting, the measure creates a “gateway diploma path of study.” She said the program offers an alternative pathway for students who take a high-stakes exam covering math, English, science, civics/government, and social studies.
Superintendent Josh Porter added that it would keep students in the district and yield positive attendance outcomes.
The board also heard about the 2025 Iowa Association of School Boards convention. Board member Diane Pratt reflected on the legislative session discussion as a highlight.
