A man was detained by police after firing a gun in Fort Dodge Wednesday evening.

The incident at 720 B St. was reported at about 4:45 p.m.

Police Lt. Joe Bates said two or three people got into an argument and a man pulled out a handgun and fired two rounds into the ground.

“He never fired the gun at them,” he said.

Fort Dodge police and Webster County sheriff’s deputies responded. The man was detained at the scene and taken to the Webster County Law Enforcement Center.

The incident remained under investigation by Fort Dodge police Wednesday night.
