Voters to decide city, school elections

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today

Fort Dodge voters will see a full ballot in Tuesday’s general election.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A list of polling places is in today’s edition of The Messenger.

City voters will pick a mayor and six of the seven City Council members.

Councilman Dave Flattery is running unopposed for mayor.

Scott Davis, Michael Haubrich, Eugene Newsome and former Councilman Terry Moehnke are running for two at-large seats on the council.

Councilwoman Jennifer Crimmins is unopposed in Ward 1.

Councilman Cameron Nelson is unopposed in Ward 2.

Todd McCubbin and Dennis Mernka are running for the Ward 3 council seat, which Flattery is leaving.

Councilman Kim Alstott and Ed Touney are competing for the Ward 4 council seat.

In the Fort Dodge Community School District, incumbent board members Zach Mason and Molly Nelson plus newcomer Dan Scott are running for three seats.

In the school district, voters will consider extending a current borrowing authority so that the district can invest $42 million into Fort Dodge Senior High School.

Voters will also decide if Iowa Central Community College can extend its borrowing authority so that it can invest $35 million in various projects that college leaders say will increase its ability to train people for jobs that are in high demand.

Both the school district and community college measures must be approved by at least 60 percent of those voting in order to go into effect.

Voters in the smaller communities of Webster County will also pick city and school district leaders.

Starting at $4.94/week.
