Voters reject proposed new Sac County Jail
Vote needed 60 percent to pass
SAC CITY — Sac County voters have rejected building a new $12.9 million jail facility.
The measure, which needed to pass by a 60-percent supermajority, had only 56-percent of the vote with 1,616 yes votes, and 1,227 no votes.
Sac County officials sought the funds to replace the more than 80 year old current jail facility which has existing infrastructure and safety risks for staff and inmates. It has been the site of two escapes.
A similar measure was on the ballot last year with a $10 million bond that fell just one percent short of passing.
