McNeeley: ‘I am ashamed of the choices I made’
FD woman gets 10 years in prison
A Fort Dodge woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in helping to move the body of Dennis Jones after his son murdered him in 2024.
Makayla McNeeley was sentenced Monday in Webster County District Court.
“There is no excuse for my behavior,” McNeeley said in a letter to the court sent through her attorney. “I have thought about it every day, and I am truly sorry. I understand now the seriousness of what I did, and I am ashamed of the choices I made.”
McNeeley pleaded guilty last month to abuse of a corpse, a class C felony.
According to the criminal complaint, McNeeley aided in moving Jones’ body from his home at 1440 Second Ave. S. to a roadside ditch along 280th Street where his body was dumped.
Aidan Pate, 23, was also arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse for helping to move Jones’ body. Pate is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 24.
Police and prosecutors say Dennis Jones was shot three times by his son, Alec Jones, 26.
Alec Jones was convicted of first-degree murder last year and is now serving life in prison.
His brother, Nathan Jones, 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact. He is now serving 22 years in prison.
