Iowa Central bond pending

Results from other counties still being counted

A plan to allow Iowa Central Community College to extend its borrowing authority to provide more workforce training was easily approved by voters in Webster and Hamilton counties Tuesday.

Late Tuesday results from some of the other counties in the college’s nine county service area were still being counted.

The measure must be approved by a 60 percent majority of those voting in order to go into effect.

In Webster County, the measure was approved by a margin of 70.38 percent to 29.62 percent.

There were 3,654 yes votes and 1,538 no votes.

In Hamilton County, there were 1,506 yes votes and 750 no votes.

If the measure is approved, the college will spend $35 million on various projects intended to expand its ability to provide training in jobs that are in high demand.

That would cost the owner of a typical home with a taxable value of $150,000 about $25 a year, according figures provided by the college.

About $18 million would be spent to build a new ag-science center on the Fort Dodge campus. The Applied Science and technology Building on that campus would be renovated. Other improvements are planned for the college’s Webster City center and its other facilities.

Starting at $4.94/week.
