HUMBOLDT — A staple of area holiday celebrations is rooted in the Golden Rule.
“The Christmas Market event is something our group definitely takes pride in,” committee member Kelsey Wigans said. “We incorporate giving back to a family or organization in need when it comes to the proceeds.”
The Renwick native, whose business, Rooted Delights, is the sponsor of the 2025 Humboldt Christmas Market, and the planning group continue to develop and promote the idea that was initially brought forward by Olivia Renken and her parents, Chris and Marla Ramaekers, five years ago.
“This year, we are really focusing on the larger Ramaekers family with the recent loss of Chris and Marla and their granddaughter, who has been diagnosed with cancer,” Wigans said.
The market, which brings an average of 1,500 to 2,000 people to the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, is Saturday. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with many opportunities for the whole family. It features free admission.
Wigans said the first 50 people through the doors will receive $10 in Humboldt Christmas cash, which can be used throughout the day.
“We will also have Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the kids to meet and get photos with; the Humboldt Area Arts Council is having ugly Christmas sweater ornaments available; the Humboldt Kiwanis will be taking donations for its annual Christmasland display; and Gilmore City/Humboldt musician Cullen Coyle performs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” she said.
Those highlights add to 50 to 60 vendors from around the region who show off their wares to help make any family’s holiday season even brighter.
“We try and make sure to have as many local businesses as possible on hand,” Wigans said. “There are folks who bring in their inventory from outside the region, too.”
