An upcoming evening of music and food will support the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight as it prepares to resume taking veterans to Washington, D.C., next year.

The first Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight Ball will be held Nov. 15 at the Laramar Ballroom, 710 First Ave. N. The doors will open at 5 p.m.

“I was just thinking of different ideas we could do and thought why don’t we start a ball for the Honor Flight,” said Sara Murphy, the new president of the Honor Flight board. “Everyone thought it was a great idea.”

“It’s an event that we want to have as a staple in Webster County to support our veterans so we can take them to D.C. on the Honor Flight,” she added.

The Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight takes area veterans to the nation’s capital for a full day of touring the war memorials, then brings them back to Fort Dodge Regional Airport the same night.

The Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight was started in 2009 by a committee headed by Ron Newsum, of Fort Dodge. The group held its first flight in 2010 and conducted 27 flights. That group concluded its efforts with the flight held in May.

The upcoming ball is the first fundraiser planned by the new committee.

Murphy said it will feature a meal prepared by Feed Shed Catering, of Moorland. She said local pianist Brady O’Brien will play during the meal.

After the dinner, Mojo productions will provide music for dancing.

There will be a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses.

Tickets will cost $60 per person.

VIP tables that seat eight can be reserved for $600. Murphy said those tables will include eight tickets for free drinks. She added that people at VIP tables will be served their dinner by St. Edmond Catholic School students, while the rest of the tables will be served buffet style.
