FD man to serve 25 years in prison for sexual abuse
A Fort Dodge man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a child over the course of a year.
According to court records, Joshua Jacobsma, 45, was sentenced for two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree, a class B felony, in Webster County District Court Monday. The sentence requires that he serve at least 70 percent of the 25-year sentence. The counts are also to be served consecutively.
“On behalf of myself and the Webster County Attorney’s Office, I’m very pleased with the outcome of this case,” said Webster County Assistant County Attorney Bailey Cavanaugh. “The facts and circumstances surrounding this matter were especially disturbing. I am happy that justice was served all while avoiding the grueling trial process. I am thankful for the law enforcement and the work they did during this case.”
According to court documents, the assaults occurred between January 2023 and January 2024. Jacobsma was arrested by Fort Dodge police in April.
