Kidnapping charge against Badger man dropped

ROCKWELL CITY — A first-degree kidnapping charge has been dropped against a Badger man in a Calhoun County case.

Calhoun County Attorney Ben Smith filed a motion asking a judge to drop the charge against Anthony E. Bacon, 49. Magistrate Ricki Osborn Stubbs dismissed the charge Friday. Bacon will pay court costs and room and board for the time he was in the Carroll County Jail.

He was arrested by Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies in early September. Deputies wrote in criminal complaints that on Sept. 8, Bacon convinced a woman to get into his pickup. He then locked the doors to the vehicle and drove to another location, where, deputies wrote, he sexually assaulted her.

But in his motion to dismiss the charge, Smith wrote that further investigation, including a review of electronic data and available security camera images, did not support the charge.

Bacon is still not entirely out of legal trouble, however, He still faces two counts of violation of a no contact order, one for a Sept. 10 incident in Sac County and one for an Oct. 8 incident in Webster County.

Starting at $4.94/week.
