Webster City to lose its downtown hardware store

Liquidation sale set to begin on Wednesday

WEBSTER CITY — The closing of Webster City’s downtown hardware store was confirmed this weekend by a letter from its owners.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the upcoming closure of our Webster City True Value Store,” the letter from owners Jesse and Stacey Bannor said.

Dated Sept. 6, the letter to its customers states the store would be closed on Sunday, Sept. 7, through Tuesday, Sept. 9, in preparation for a liquidation sale.

The liquidation sale begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Items in the store will be listed up to 50% off and we will sell until everything is gone. All sales will be final,” the letter states.

“The last day of business is TBD (to be decided) depending on the stock level of the store and other business operations that need to wind down.”

Repeated attempts to contact the Bannors prior to this letter were unsuccessful.

In August 2024, the City Council of Webster City gave its approval “to provide a low-interest loan to Triple E Enterprises LLC for $62,000 from the city’s new Economic Development Fund,” Daily Freeman-Journal records show.

“Triple E is the new owner and operator of True Value Hardware in downtown Webster City. Shoppers may already have noticed new floors, painting and new rental equipment and paint departments in the store.

“The company is planning a four-phase project. Phase I, now underway, will see improvements to the store interior; Phase II will cover a new roof for its building at 541 Second St., which must be completed before winter weather sets in; Phase III exterior improvements to be completed in 2026; and Phase IV, expansion, due to be finished sometime in 2027-2028.”

The store comprises three buildings that are linked: 537, 539 and 543 Second St. According to the Hamilton County Assessor’s Office online records, 537 is valued at $71,990; 539 is valued at $103,970; and 543 is valued at $59,120.

All three addresses are owned by Triple E Enterprises LLC.

The Webster City True Value store uses the address 541 Second St.

The Bannors also own the True Value Hardware Store in Madrid.

Starting at $4.94/week.
