Two dead, 4 injured in Calhoun Co. collision

MANSON — Two people are dead and four others injured following a near head-on collision in Calhoun County Saturday night.

The accident happened around 9:50 p.m. on Iowa Highway 7, approximately three miles east of Manson, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

According to officials, a van driven by 46-year-old Wilfredo Quevedo Mesa, of Storm Lake, was westbound on Iowa Highway 7 when the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by a pickup driven by 21-year-old Conner Darr of Manson.

Both vehicles left the roadway. Mesa’s van rolled onto its side in the ditch. Darr’s pickup entered the ditch and struck a utility pole before coming to rest in the field.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, three people in the van were sitting on patio furniture and were not restrained by seatbelts.

Two passengers in the van, 26-year-old Alondra Bravo and 34-year-old Jorge Perez Hechavarria, both of Storm Lake, died at the scene. Three other passengers in the van, 8-year-old Luis Bravo, 46-year-old Marina Escalante, and Mesa, were injured and transported to multiple hospitals. Darr was transported by Fort Dodge Fire Rescue to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Calhoun County EMS, Life Flight, and Fort Dodge Fire and Rescue.
