Teen dies in car accident

SCC High School postpones homecoming activities

LAKE CITY — A sophomore student at South Central Calhoun High School has died after a multi-vehicle accident Wednesday morning.

In a letter to district students and staff that was posted to social media, South Central Calhoun Superintendent Brad Anderson and High School Principal Sara Pibal said that “Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore, lost his life in a fatal car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the students’ family, friends, and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous personal loss.”

“A loss of this nature is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions from our school community, especially from some of our students. Members of the SCC Crisis Response Team, Heartland AEA (which is made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students), pastors and staff, will be present at the High School today to provide support, comfort and reassurance to any student or family who needs it. … High School students will be afforded the opportunity to call home using their personal devices.”

All homecoming activities planned for Wednesday evening were postponed. The district asked all students to wear blue, Ogden’s favorite color, to school today.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
