Teen dead in Greene County after officer-involved shooting

Deputy fired after teen advanced with weapon

GREENE COUNTY — A Boone man is dead after being shot by a Greene County sheriff’s deputy.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was called Saturday at 10:49 p.m. to assist the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Boone Police Department with a pursuit that started in Boone County and continued into Greene County.

When the vehicle, driven by Camryn Stonehocker, 18, of Boone, was finally stopped, Stonehocker exited his vehicle armed with a weapon.

According to law enforcement, Stonehocker advanced on officers. An officer fired his weapon, striking Stonehocker, who died at the scene.

According to the DCI, the officers involved were not injured and have been placed on critical incident leave in accordance with their departmental policy.

Following an investigation by DCI, the findings will be forwarded to the Greene County Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Iowa Attorney General for review.
