Supervisors to consider hog confinement application

Summit Farms Pork LLC hopes to build in Jackson Township

At their upcoming Tuesday meeting, the Webster County Board of Supervisors will consider a building permit application from Summit Farms Pork LCC for a proposed hog confinement in Jackson Township.

According to the board’s agenda for Tuesday, the bBoard is being asked to sign a recommendation letter for Summit Farms Pork LLC, of Alden, to place a confinement feeding operation in section two of Jackson Township, on Fairbanks Avenue between 100th Street and 110th Street.

The proposed confinement will house a maximum of 4,999 head of swine finishers within two new deep pit swine confinement barns.

According to paperwork submitted by Webster County Planning and Zoning Administrator Jeff Johnson, the closest residence to the building site is approximately one-half mile to the south, 1102 Fairbanks Avenue South. There is also no well within 100 feet, no wetlands within 2,000 feet, and no protected waters within 2,000 feet either.

According to paperwork submitted within the agenda, the construction permit was reviewed by county staff, and staff recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the permit application.

Also at Tuesday’s upcoming Board of Supervisors meeting, the board will consider approving Vande Stouwe Construction LLC and Mid Iowa Site Services LLC as private sewage disposal system contractors for the 2025 installation years.

The board plans to consider a 28E sharing agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for grant funding.

The board is also expected to go into closed session to discuss pending litigation as well as a potential resolution for approval of a settlement regarding the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.
