SAC CITY — The Sac County Board of Supervisors has named Katie Stange as the new sheriff of Sac County.
Stange was appointed to the role Tuesday after Jonathan Meyer resigned the position in early September and asked to step back into the role of sergeant.
Meyer’s resignation came days after he was assaulted while off-duty.
During Tuesday’s board meeting, supervisors noted that they had received resumes from others interested in the sheriff’s role, but noted that for consistency within the department they would appoint Stange, who was the county’s chief deputy, to the role and allow those interested “to file papers and allow the voters to decide.”
During the meeting, Stange was sworn in as the county’s new sheriff.
Stange has been with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, where she started her law enforcement career, for more than seven years.
“I take this role very seriously,” said Stange. “I also want to remind Sac County residents that our jail is not safe for our jail staff and inmates. Anyone with questions or who would like a tour of our 90-year-old jail, please reach out and I’m happy to answer your questions.”
