Construction is well underway on UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center’s $39.8 million new surgery center.
The progress isn’t readily visible so far because the work is behind fences and below grade.
Relocation of utilities and excavation of the basement level are nearly complete, with wood lagging installation in progress as part of the basement foundation wall shoring process.
Upcoming work will include installation of the sump pit, drain tile and footings, according to an announcement from the hospital.
The renovation is designed to enhance patient satisfaction and improve team member efficiency by bringing inpatient surgery, outpatient surgery and sterile processing together in one location.

Leah Glasgo, market president for UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge, has described the project as a “bold step forward for health care in our community.”
When complete in March 2027, the upgraded facility will include:
• Five operating room suites.
• Two endoscopy suites.
• 24 pre- and post-operative rooms.
• Sterile processing.
All of that will be in the new center, located at the front of the hospital just west of the main entrance.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 19.
A fundraising campaign led by Casey and Deb Johnson, of Fort Dodge, is generating some of the money needed to pay for the project.
Surgical technology has advanced significantly in the 44 years since the current main operating suites were opened. This renovation enables UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge to accommodate the latest technology, recruit new surgeons and ensure the highest quality care to the patients and community.
UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge currently offers eight different surgical specialties, performed by 18 physicians, and serves patients from a 60-mile radius.
