Fort Dodge couple faces child abuse charges
Preliminary hearing set for Prewitts
A Fort Dodge father and mother face a long list of criminal charges stemming from reported abuse of their baby, according to court records.
Austin N. Prewitt, 24, of 315 Haskell St., faces 21 counts of child endangerment, bodily injury, according to criminal complaints filed against him.
Rebekah P. Prewitt, 23, of 315 Haskell St., faces 15 counts of child endangerment, bodily injury, criminal complaints state.
Fort Dodge police wrote in the criminal complaints that Austin Prewitt knowingly struck a child under 1 year of age with an object. The incidents happened between Oct. 21, 2024, and Thursday, the complaints state.
Rebekah P. Prewitt “knowingly aided and abetted” Austin Prewitt in hitting the child, officers wrote in the complaints.
Both of the Prewitts were arrested late last week.
Magistrate Sarah Livingston scheduled a Sept. 22 preliminary hearing for Austin Prewitt. She also issued an order prohibiting him from having any contact with the child.
She set bond for Austin Prewitt at $210,000 cash only.
Livingston scheduled a Sept. 23 preliminary hearing for Rebekah Prewitt and issued an order prohibiting her from having contact with the child.
Her bond was set at $150,000 cash only.
