Webster County Fair results

State Fair award winners named

4-H exhibits were judged July 15 at the Webster County Fair. Each exhibit was evaluated on the goals the 4-H’er set in making the exhibit, the learning demonstrated, quality of work and techniques used, and overall general appearance and design of the exhibit. Each exhibit was given a blue, red or white ribbon based on the evaluation criteria. Judges also made State Fair selections and awarded honorable mentions to those exhibitors deserving of recognition for their efforts.

4-H Clothing Selection/Fashion Revue/$20 Challenge/Innovative Design Results

Webster County 4-H members participated in the categories of Clothing Selection, Fashion Revue, Innovative Design, and $20 Challenge. Judging took place on June 21. Winners were announced during the Webster County Fair style show on July 16. They are as follows:

Clothing Selection

The 4-H Clothing Selection program is designed to give 4-H members an opportunity to become careful consumers, as they learn about making economical purchases, caring for clothes, and selecting clothing that looks good on them. Participants model a garment they have purchased.

Seniors: Two individuals were selected to represent Webster County at the Iowa State Fair: Aianna Kirby, C/C Sidekicks; Sydney Novencido, C/C Sidekicks. The alternate selected was Annalise Cobb, Elkhorn Earlybirds.

Intermediates: Emma Hayes, Dayton Tigers, was the selected Champion, and Joley Swanson, Dayton Tigers, was Reserve Champion. AvaMarie Kirby, C/C Sidekicks, was awarded Honorable Mention.

Juniors: Lillian Newell, Gowrie Groundbreakers, was selected Champion, and Claire Schelle, Douglas Dreamers, was Reserve Champion. Honorable Mention was awarded to Falen Klein, C/C Sidekicks. Best Use of Color was awarded to Kinley Wirt, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Best Accessorized was awarded to Anna Nicholson, Douglas Dreamers.

Fashion Revue:

Fashion Revue exhibitors model an outfit they have made. They are judged on clothing construction, fit, suitability, and modeling the garment. They are also judged on color, style, fabric choice and total cost.

Intermediate: Joley Swanson, Dayton Tigers, was the Intermediate Champion.

Junior: Claire Schelle, Douglas Dreamers, was the Junior Champion.

Fashion Revue received ribbons as follows:

Dayton Tigers: Joley Swanson, blue.

Douglas Dreamers: Claire Schelle, blue.

Innovative Design

Innovative design was a new category this year in which the participants modeled an outfit that was created and/or altered in a unique way. This could have been done by using an innovative sewing technique, unique materials, or fabric.

Seniors: Two individuals were selected to represent Webster County at the Iowa State Fair: Bianca Aquino, C/C Sidekicks; Annalise Cobb, Elkhorn Earlybirds.

Junior: Claire Schelle, Douglas Dreamers, was selected as Junior Champion.

The Innovative Design received ribbons as followed:

$20 Challenge

4-H’ers participating in this area model a garment they purchased through a thrift shop, consignment store, or garage sale for $20 or less. They learn about choosing shopping alternatives, evaluating fit, quality and construction features, and price and cost comparison.

Seniors: Four individuals were selected to represent Webster County at the Iowa State Fair: Annalise Cobb, Elkhorn Earlybirds; Aianna Kirby, C/C Sidekicks; Abby Newman, Douglas Dreamers; Sydney Novencido, C/C Sidekicks.

Intermediates: Joley Swanson, Dayton Tigers, was selected as Champion, and Reserve Champion was Emma Hayes, Dayton Tigers. Honorable mention was awarded to AvaMarie Kirby, C/C Sidekicks.

Juniors: Falen Klein, C/C Sidekicks, was selected as the Champion, with Reserve Champion being Joshua Klemp, Douglas Dreamers. Most Sporty went to Miles Cobb, Elkhorn Earlybirds. Most Appropriate for A Variety of Activities was awarded to Lillian Newell, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Webster County names new fair royalty

Aiden Anderson, Gowrie Groundbreakers and Blessing Cunigan, Dayton Tigers, were crowned 2025 Webster County Fair King and Queen on July 16.

Lauren Eslick, Dayton Tigers, was Queen runner-up, and Owen Compart, Johnson Jaguars, was King runner-up. Preliminary interviews were held on July 14. Blessing Cunigan, Gowrie Groundbreakers, will represent Webster County at the Iowa State Fair in August. Grell Roofing provided a $500 scholarship to the fair queen. Iowa Central Community College also provided a scholarship to both the fair king and queen.

Webster County Soil & Water Conservation District Commission will sponsor the Queen at the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest and provided a $500 scholarship to the fair king. Co-sponsors are the Webster County Fair Board and Webster County Extension and Outreach.

Beef Show winners announced

The annual Beef Show was held July 18 at the Webster County Fair.

Colton Haug, Gowrie Groundbreakers, won Grand Champion Market Beef; Reserve Champion went to Kase Condon, Johnson Jaguars.

Champion Market Heifer was awarded to Hanna Wicklein, Dayton Tigers. Champion Market Steer honors went to Kase Condon, Johnson Jaguars, and Reserve Champion to Boe Davis, Dayton Tigers.

Mack Allan, Johnson Jaguars, won Best Interview Bucket Bottle Calf, and Caleb Lundgren won Best Records Bucket Bottle Calf. Caleb Lundgren, Dayton Tigers, won Champion Feeder Calf. Caleb Lundgren, Dayton Tigers, won Advanced Feeder Pen.

Jacob Wicklein, Dayton Tigers, won Champion Commercial Heifer; Reserve Champion went to Kase Condon, Johnson Jaguars.

Aleah Anderson, Dayton Tigers, won Champion Registered Purebred Female; Reserve Champion went to Caden Haug, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

The Champion Cow/Calf Pair was shown by Declan Lundgren, Dayton Tigers. Aleah Anderson, Dayton Tigers, won Champion Supreme Female; Reserve Champion went to Jacob Wicklein, Dayton Tigers.

Colton Haug, Gowrie Groundbreakers, won Champion in Rate of Gain.

Showmanship Awards were given in three categories. Senior Showmanship went to Aleah Anderson, Dayton Tigers; Intermediate Showmanship to Jacob Wicklein, Dayton Tigers; and Junior Showmanship to Caden Haug, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Webster County Fair Goat Show results

Many champions were selected at the Annual Goat Show on July 17.

Brinlynn Alliger of the Gowrie Groundbreakers was awarded Champion Market Goat. Reserve went to Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA.

Champion Rate of Gain was awarded to Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA, and Reserve Champion Rate of Gain was awarded to Wyatt Miller, Dayton Tigers.

Champion Webster County Born and Raised went to Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA, and Kolton Condon, Johnson Jaguars, won Reserve honors.

Champion Breeding Doe went to Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA, and Reserve Champion honors went to Kase Condon, Johnson Jaguars. Champion Breeding Buck Goat was awarded to Gabby Stewart, Central Plains FFA, and Reserve Champion Breeding Buck Goat was earned by Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA.

Champion Dairy Goat honors went to Karah Hayes, Dayton Tigers, and Reserve Champion went to Stella Wood, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Awards were given for showmanship in three categories. Trigg Spangler, Elkhorn Earlybirds, was awarded Junior Goat Showmanship, and Lilly Stewart, Central Plains FFA, received Senior Goat Showmanship. Senior Dairy Goat Showmanship was awarded to Caleb Hayes, Dayton Tigers, and Junior Dairy Goat Showmanship to Stella Wood, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

The Costume Class was won by Scarlett Wood, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Horse Show results announced

The Horse Show was held July 18-19 at the Webster County Fair.

The Champion Mare was shown by Ava Nelson, Johnson Jaguars, and Reserve went to Jillian Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

The Champion Gelding was shown by Luke Muench, Dayton Tigers, and Reserve went to Drew Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

The Champion Pony was shown by Julia Matton of the Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve was shown by Alexis Essing of the Johnson Jaguars.

Friday night was time for fun and games for the 4-H’ers. Senior Egg and Spoon was Addison Loseke, Johnson Jaguars; Intermediate was Madelyn Wittrock, Johnson Jaguars; and Junior was Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars.

Senior Pole Bending was Ava Nelson, Johnson Jaguars; Intermediate was Brock Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Junior was Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars.

Senior Key Hole Race was Luke Muench, Dayton Tigers; Intermediate was Brock Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Junior was Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars.

Senior Barrel Racing went to Ava Messerly, Johnson Jaguars; Intermediate went to Kenyia Ruebel, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Junior went to Kiley Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Senior Flag Race went to Addison Loseke, Johnson Jaguars; Intermediate went to Brock Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Junior went to Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars. Senior Mystery Class was Kyla Egli, Johnson Jaguars; Intermediate went to Calli Bird, Johnson Jaguars; and Junior went to Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars.

Belt Buckles were awarded to 4-H’ers who earned the most points in the horse show and throughout the horse project year. Customized chairs were awarded to 4-H’ers who received Reserve.

The winner in the Senior Class was Alexis Essing, Johnson Jaguars; Reserve was Addison Loseke, Johnson Jaguars.

The winner in the Intermediate class was Calli Bird, Johnson Jaguars, and Reserve was Madelyn Wittrock, Johnson Jaguars.

The Junior Champion was Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars, and Reserve was Drew Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Belt buckles and chairs were also awarded to the 4-H’ers who earned the most points on game night with the same project year expectations. Addison Loseke, Johnson Jaguars, was the Senior winner, Alexis Essing, Johnson Jaguars, was the Reserve. Kenyia Ruebel, Gowrie Groundbreakers, was the Intermediate winner, and Calli Bird and Madelyn Wittrock, Johnson Jaguars, tied for Reserve. The Junior winner was Abby Allen, Johnson Jaguars, and Reserve was Drew Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Poultry Show results announced

The 4-H Poultry Show was held July 18 at the Webster County Fair.

Vivian Speck, Dayton Tigers, earned Best of Show; Reserve Best of Show went to Karah Hayes, Dayton Tigers.

Champion Pigeon was shown by Kenley Spece, Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve Champion Pigeons were both shown by Cooper Spece, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Champion All Other Poultry was Drew Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve Champion was Issac Banks, Badger Builders.

Champion Waterfowl was shown by Stella Wood, Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve Champion Waterfowl by Turner Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Champion Bantam Waterfowl was shown by Kensley Cox, Gowrie Groundbreakers; Reserve Bantam Waterfowl went to Kenley Spece, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Champion Chicken was won by Kara Hayes, Dayton Tigers, and Reserve Champion Chicken by Henry Compart, Johnson Jaguars. Vivian Speck, Dayton Tigers, won Champion Bantam Chicken along with Reserve Champion Bantam Chicken.

Showmanship honors were as follows: Senior — Lane Ahlers, Gowrie Groundbreakers; Intermediate — Kenley Spece, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Junior — Stella Wood, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

The costume class winner was Kenley Spece, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Her chicken was dressed as Bob Ross (chicken), and Kenley was dressed as his painting (exhibitor).

Sheep Show results

Many champions were selected at the Annual Sheep Show July 17.

Hailey Rees, Central Plains FFA, showed the Champion Purebred Ewe Lamb, and Layne Condon, Johnson Jaguars, showed the Reserve Champion Purebred Ewe Lamb.

Emilia Bloomquist, Central Plains FFA, showed the Champion Commercial Ewe Lamb. The Reserve Champion Commercial Ewe Lamb was earned by Landon Bloomquist, Central Plains FFA.

Supreme Champion Breeding Ewe was shown by Grace Kauffman, Dayton Tigers, and Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Ewe was exhibited by Blaine Peterson, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

Joe Kauffman, Dayton Tigers, was awarded Grand Champion Market Lamb, and Reserve went to Grace Kauffman, Dayton Tigers. Champion Heavy Weight Market Lamb went to Joe Kauffman, Dayton Tigers, and Reserve Champion Heavy Weight Market Lamb went to Owen Compart, Manson Northwest Webster FFA.

Champion Market All Other Face Lamb went to Blaine Peterson, Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve Champion went to Owen Compart, Manson Northwest Webster FFA.

Champion Rate of Gain Market Lamb honors went to Owen Pudenz, Central Plains FFA, and Reserve to Gracie Kallansrud, Douglas Dreamers. First Place Advanced Feeder Lamb was awarded to Aiden Anderson, Gowrie Groundbreakers, and Reserve went to Lillian Allen, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

There were three levels of Showmanship. These winners each received a Showmanship Jacket and a lamb grooming kit. Senior Showmanship was won by Blaine Peterson, Gowrie Groundbreakers; Intermediate Showmanship went to Aubree Richardson, Dayton Tigers; and Junior Showmanship was earned by Layne Condon, Johnson Jaguars.

A 4-H Travel Chair was awarded to the exhibitor who earned the most points in the sheep show. The winner of this award was Layne Condon, Johnson Jaguars.

County Council installed at the Webster County Fair

The 2025-26 4-H County Council was installed on July 20 after the Parade of Champions at the Webster County Fair. The installation was led by County Youth Coordinator Kristyn Klemp and youth members of the 2024-25 County Council.

Cat and Pet Show winners named

The Cat and Pet Show was held July 18 at the Webster County Fair.

The Champion Pet was shown by Emma Hayes of the Dayton Tigers; Reserve Champion was awarded to Violet Newell, Gowrie Groundbreakers. The Champion Cat was shown by Lucas Eastman, Elkhorn Earlybirds, and Reserve Champion by Joshua Klemp, Douglas Dreamers. Spectators’ Choice Award went to Joshua Klemp, Douglas Dreamers. Serenity Cunigan, Dayton Tigers, won the Costume Class.

Best Cat Display went to Violet Newell, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Best Cat Story went to Allison Hayes, Dayton Tigers. Best Pet Display was awarded to Heaven Cunigan, Dayton Tigers. Best Pet Story went to Ellie Carstens, Gowrie Groundbreakers.

All participants received ribbons as follows:

4-H Dog Show names champion

The 4-H Dog Show was held July 16 at the Webster County Fairgrounds. Harrison Carzoli, Douglas Dreamers, received High Point Dog Exhibitor First or Second Year Award. Julia Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers, was awarded High Point Dog Exhibitor Third Year and Beyond Award.

Top Care and Grooming went to Claire Schelle, Douglas Dreamers, in the first division, and Sylvia Wacholtz, C/C Sidekicks, in the second division. Top score from Pre-Novice A Obedience Class was Harrison Carzoli, Douglas Dreamers; and Pre-Novice B Obedience Class was Kiley Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Top Obedience Score from Sub Novice was Jillian Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers; and Novice Obedience was Julia Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers. Both Graduate Novice Obedience and Rally Obedience were awarded to Sylvia Wacholtz, C/C Sidekicks.

Top Open Handler Junior went to Kiley Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers; Intermediate was Julia Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers and Senior was Sylvia Wacholtz, C/C Sidekicks. Harrison Carzoli, Douglas Dreamers won Top Novice Handler; and Jillian Matton, Gowrie Groundbreakers, received Top Novice Intermediate. Harrison Carzoli, Douglas Dreamers, won the Costume Class, and Kiley Norine, Gowrie Groundbreakers, won the Trick Class.
