Water main job is on FD council agenda

Project would support new Ball Plumbing facility in FD

The Fort Dodge City Council will consider awarding a contract for another water main construction job when it meets this evening.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The planned water main would extend about 2,000 feet east of the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and 42nd Street. It would support the creation of a new facility for Ball Plumbing and future development in the area.

Rasch Construction Inc., of Fort Dodge, has submitted the apparent low bid of about $252,000.

The council voted on Aug. 11 to use tax increment financing to pay for this water main extension. Tax increment financing occurs when increased property tax revenue from a designated area is set aside to be reinvested in that area.

In other business, the council will consider approving the promotion of Paige Wheeler to development services director.

The council will also consider accepting a $100,000 Community Catalyst and Remediation Grant from the state to help pay for repairs at the Boston Center, 809 Central Ave.

Starting at $4.94/week.
