Preparing for progress

A new lane that will enable westbound traffic on Fifth Avenue South to turn into the Nestle Purina PetCare plant at 2400 Fifth Ave. S, is taking shape. The turning lane is being built to support a major expansion of the plant which will result in a new product being made there. Fort Dodge City Engineer Austin Morrow said the turning lane project is a little bit behind schedule because of wet weather, but added that he thinks concrete paving will begin soon. Absolute Concrete Inc., of Granger, has a $372,662 contract for the job. The city received a $344,450 state grant to help pay for the project. The Webster County Board of Supervisors has committed to providing the remaining money.
