Lehigh woman jailed after stabbing dogs

Mallinger held on $20,000 bond

LEHIGH — A Lehigh woman has been charged with four counts of animal neglect and abuse after she stabbed two of her dogs and purposefully restricted their access to food and water.

According to court documents, Harlie Mallinger, 42, was charged with two counts of neglect causing serious injury or death and two counts of animal mistreatment causing serious injury or death.

According to court documents, Webster County Animal Control was dispatched to Lehigh on Aug. 1 following reports of two emaciated dogs living in a home. Following an investigation and search warrant, two dogs — an American bulldog and a terrier — were discovered with open wounds, skin infections, and in an emaciated body condition. Both dogs had been stabbed recently with a knife and both had been starved.

Both dogs were rushed to a veterinarian for treatment and are currently in the care of Webster County Animal Protection.

Mallinger is currently being held in the Webster County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Webster County Animal Protection was assisted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in the investigation.
