Two rundown houses in Fort Dodge will soon have a date with a demolition crew.

The City Council on Monday hired Riley-Armstrong Plumbing Inc., of Fort Dodge, to knock down the houses at a cost of $63,999.

The houses are at 611 Ave. C and 549 Third Ave. N. The house at Third Avenue North was the site of two fires.

Other bidders for the demolition contract were Lansing Brothers Construction, Luxemburg, ($89,760) and Earth Services & Abatement, Des Moines ($131,6550).

In other business, the council purchased a Ram 1500 half-ton pickup for the Public Areas Department from Shimkat Motor Co., of Fort Dodge, for $37,085.

Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota offered the only other bid of $46,558.
