FD council approves water main work

A water main extension on the east side of Fort Dodge was approved by the City Council Monday.

The new water main will extend 2,000 feet east of the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and 42nd Street. It will serve two new business buildings. According to information provided to the council, Ball Plumbing will own one of those buildings. The owner or occupant of the other building wasn’t named in the report to the council.

The council hired Rasch Construction Inc., of Fort Dodge, to install the water main at a cost of $251,627.

The council earlier this month approved a measure clearing the way for tax increment financing to be used to help pay for the water main. tax increment financing occurs when increased property tax revenue from a given area is set aside to be reinvested in that area.

Additionally, Ball Plumbing will pay a $14,500 fee to connect to the completed water main.

Other bidders for the job were Nels Pederson Construction, Badger, $336,648; Doyle Construction, Fort Dodge, $337,041.20; OnTrack Construction, Nevada, $339,957; Gehrke Inc., Eldora, $364,802; and Riley-Armstrong Plumbing, Fort Dodge, $373,031.55.

Starting at $4.94/week.
