A downtown Fort Dodge building that was the site of a major fire in November burned again Tuesday night.

The fire at 1107 Central Ave. was reported at 9 p.m.

There were no injuries reported.

Residents of the building immediately to the east, including at least one pet in a carrier, were evacuated.

When police and firefighters arrived, smoke was pushing out the front windows of the three-story building and filling Central Avenue between 11th and 12th streets. Flames were coming out a third floor window on the west side.

Fire emerges from a corner of the roof at 1107 Central Ave. Tuesday night.

Fire Chief Matt Price said there was extensive fire damage throughout the third floor. He said fire extended into the space between the third floor ceilings and the roof and flames eventually burst through a front corner of the roof.

Emergency personnel were still on the scene late Tuesday night.

The investigation into the cause of the blaze was just getting started late Tuesday night.

The building was the site of a major fire on Nov. 17, 2024. It was reported at 2:21 a.m.

That fire was also on the third floor and caused massive damage to that floor and part of the attic and roof.

Six people were injured in that blaze.

During that incident, Firefighter/Paramedic Kyle Porter held two ladders together to enable a woman to escape from the third floor. In April he received the Fire Department’s Award of Valor for that rescue.

Starting at $4.94/week.
