Alstott to seek reelection to FD council
McCaleb will not run again
One Fort Dodge City Council member is trying for another term in office, but a second incumbent has said he will be done after his first term is over.
Councilman Kim Alstott said he will seek his eighth term representing Ward 4.
Councilman Quennel McCaleb said he will not seek reelection to his at-large seat.
Alstott is a retired business owner who lives at 1232 N. Seventh St.
He is a native of Fort Dodge who graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. He earned an associate degree from Iowa Central Community College. He is a veteran of the Iowa Army National Guard.
Over the years, his community involvement has included working with The Salvation Army, Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust, Webster County Crime Stoppers, Pride in Community Appearance and Main Street Fort Dodge.
Ward 4 is the north central part of the city.
Council members elected to represent the wards serve two-year terms.
McCaleb was elected in 2021 and is stepping down after one four-year term. At-large council members serve four-year terms.
His decision means that both at-large seats on this year’s ballot will be open. Councilwoman Lydia Schuur previously said she will not seek reelection.
Others who have announced their candidacies for city office are Councilman Dave Flattery, who is running for mayor, and council hopefuls Michael Haubrich (at-large), former Councilman Terry Moehnke (at-large), Councilwoman Jen Crimmins (Ward 1), Councilman Cameron Nelson (Ward 2) and Todd McCubbin (Ward 3).
Mayor Matt Bemrich is not running for a fifth term.
