WHITTEMORE — A Kossuth County man died while shooting off fireworks.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Patrick Prentice, 33, was holding a launcher tube while lighting fireworks Tuesday night.

The Kossuth County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call at 9:10 p.m. stating that a male subject was unconscious and had received injuries while shooting off fireworks at the corner of Fifth Street and Kossuth Avenue in Whittemore.

Whittemore and Kossuth County EMS responded to the scene. Air Med 3 from Mercy Hospital in Mason City was paged. However, Prentice was pronounced dead at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny will conduct an autopsy.

Whittemore EMS, Kossuth County EMS, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office and Kossuth County Medical Examiner’s Office all responded to the scene.
