Webster County deputy resigns amid investigations
Michehl stepped down on July 25
A Webster County deputy has resigned amid investigations by local and state officials.
According to Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener, Deputy Sheriff Trevir Michehl was placed on administrative leave on July 15. On the advice of Webster County Attorney Darren Driscoll, an administrative investigation began at that time.
“The state has been informed and/or learned of alleged concerns and/or information that may be related to issues involving the character, credibility, and/or veracity of the witness listed above that could potentially relate to his past conduct and/or potential testimony,” the mandatory Brady/Giglio Disclosure from the County Attorney’s office reads.
A Brady/Giglio Disclosure is required, per a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1972 stating that if there is any information that could challenge a witness’ credibility it must be disclosed to the defense as well.
According to Driscoll, Michehl was placed on administrative leave on July 15 pending the conclusion of an internal investigation. However, he submitted his resignation to the department on Friday.
According to a statement issued by Driscoll, Michehl is also “currently the subject of a criminal investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.”
The internal and DCI investigations are ongoing.
