Supervisors begin search for new recorder
Laufersweiler took role outside of county government
The Webster County Board of Supervisors has started the search for a new county recorder.
Previous Recorder Lindsay Laufersweiler took a job outside of county government. Her last day with the county was last week.
“While we’re saddened to see Lindsay Laufersweiler go, we’re glad to report that we’ve done our due diligence and are ready to start the process of appointing a new Webster County recorder,” said Supervisor Niki Conrad. “It’s an important office with big shoes to fill, but I look forward to a smooth transition.”
According to Conrad, the vacancy will be filled by appointment through Dec. 31, 2026, unless a special election is called for.
Applicants interested in the role of county recorder should submit a cover letter and resume to the Webster County Auditor’s office by email to auditor@webstercountyia.gov, by mail at 701 Central Ave., Fort Dodge IA 50501, or online through Webster County’s application website at GovernmentJobs.com. A cover letter and resume can also be dropped off at the Auditor’s Office on the second floor of the Webster County Courthouse.
All applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. July 25.
According to state law, the electors of Webster County have the right to file a petition requiring the vacancy be filled by a special election. That petition must be filed with the county auditor within 14 days of the first publication of notice, which was made on Monday, or within 14 days after the appointment is made. The petition must contain signatures of eligible electors equal in number to at least 10 percent of the votes cast in Webster County for the office of President of the United States in the November 2024 election.
